Bsafe Unveils Enterprise Security 4.1 to Boost OS/400 Auditing

Bsafe Information Systems has launched a new release of its OS/400 security software, Bsafe Enterprise Security 4.1, featuring enhancements in the areas of auditing, session swapping, and client-server compatibility.

The new release is built on version 4.0, which was unveiled in October 2005. The new version 4.1 introduces a new central audit facility that allows administrators to keep pertinent audit details from multiple sources in one place. This includes audit trails and saved audit history, even if the receiver or file has been deleted.

This release also brings the capability to monitor record reads, whether or not those reads were executed from a native green screen interface or through network interfaces, which have always been a weak point for OS/400 security.

Version 4.1 brings two swapping enhancements that allow users to change how they're logged onto to system. The interactive session swapping feature gives administrators a way to sign on as a native green screen user, then switch to another user with all the authorities and rights of that user, without knowing the other user's password, Bsafe says.

This release also brings DRDA swapping, which is useful for executing host-to-host SQL queries, the company says.
