Spam is turning out to be a costly affair. According to IT research firms Nucleus Research and KnowledgeStorm, the cost of Spam in terms of lost productivity weighs as much as USD 712 per employee per year. A whopping USD 71 billon to all U.S. businesses annually.
Many are very indignant when it comes to spammers; some going as far as thinking a jail sentence for spammers is appropriate.
MySpace has set an example suing 'Spam King' Sanford Wallace for piloting a phishing scheme to pinch login credentials.
"Individuals who try to Spam or phish our members are not welcome on MySpace," Hemanshu Nigam, MySpace CSO, said. "We will continue to aggressively protect our members through a combination of legal action, law enforcement pursuit and technological advancements."
The social networking site is expecting USD 100 million as compensation for the damage done.
