McAfee has hired Jeff Green as the senior vice president of McAfee Avert Labs and Product Development. In his new role, Green will be responsible for McAfee’s global research organisation, located in the Americas, Europe and Asia. He will oversee research teams focused on viruses, hacker/targeted attacks, spyware, Spam, phishing, vulnerabilities and patches, and host and network intrusion technologies. Green will also lead long-term security research to ensure that McAfee stays ahead of emerging threats, the company stated.

Green spent the last seven years with McAfee as senior vice president of product development. During this time Green was instrumental in helping McAfee provide protection to customers when ‘Melissa,’ the first major email-borne virus, struck and was first to deliver anti-virus gateway appliances. He was also responsible for delivering the core technology McAfee uses to provide anti-virus and spyware protection to its customers. Before joining McAfee, Green held senior management positions at Dr. Solomon’s and Clearswift. He has also been involved in product development for the banking and telecommunications space, the company added.
