Japanese antivirus company, Trend Micro has launched Trend Micro Mobile Security, the new online security service that is part of Trend Micro Internet Security 2007. The software suite encompasses the company's PC-cillin engine, anti-malware tool, anti-fraud protection against phishing and pharming attacks, and mobile security tool, the company stated.
IDC expects converged mobile device shipments to reach nearly 100 million units in 2006 and the number of threats to these sorts of devices is increasing. These threats to date have been proof-of-concept attacks that are limited by weak propagation methods capabilities and a modest target device population. Given the growth in smartphone penetration and the increasing availability of WiFi networks coupled with faster download capabilities, the possibility of a more serious threat is increasing.
"Faster download speeds in data-centric devices deliver new applications, web access and push e-mail, all of which aid the 'on the go' lifestyle of many people using devices such as smartphones,” commented Raimund Genes, general manager of Trend Micro Incubation segment. “However, the expanding popularity of smartphone’s is likely to attract a growing malicious attackers looking to make a fraudulent profit"
Trend Micro Mobile Security 3.0 for Windows Mobile 5.0 (PocketPC and Smartphone) is available immediately with pricing beginning at USD 34.95 per device. Trend Micro Mobile Security 3.0 for Symbian/S60 3rd Edition will be available in 2007. For more information click here.
