Trend Micro, a provider of network antivirus and content security, has unveiled InterScan Messaging Security Appliance, a solution for enterprises to address email-based threats including spam, phishing, bots, spyware, and viruses, as well as content compliance.
Trend Micro Network Reputation Services is said to provide the initial layer of protection by stopping a majority of mail-based threats at the connection layer before they reach the gateway.
A new version of Network Reputation Services is integrated into InterScan Messaging Security Appliance in addition to being available as a standalone service. Network Reputation Services provides a new portal that allows customers to set policies for their specific e-mail environment while also enabling customers to set specific e-mail blacklist/whitelist policies. One policy-setting feature, for example, restricts e-mail based on the geographical origin or ISP of potential e-mail senders.
The second layer of InterScan Messaging Security Appliances spam protection is a composite engine. This engine intends on filtering spam and phishing e-mails at the gateway through heuristics, statistical analysis, signature filtering, whitelists, blacklists, and other anti-spam techniques. This combined approach catches any remaining threats before they reach the inbox. The composite engine also detects non-English spam, the company said.
InterScan Messaging Security Appliance is currently available worldwide. North American pricing starts at USD 20,180. Other models are available to support up to 25,000 users per device.
