As security evolves to be more of an enabler than inhibitor, solutions must be readily available to protect consumers and businesses at every connection, giving them confidence that their information and interactions are protected everywhere they go. Symantec has introduced its latest endpoint protection solution to address such existing and emerging concerns.

Hailed as a “single agent” that addresses security on a multi layer approach, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 is an integrated antivirus, antispyware, firewall, host- and network-based intrusion prevention solution (IPS) and application and device control all wrapped in one.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 is made up of technology from Symantec, Sygate, Whole Security and Veritas thus, providing a fully integrated solution that can work across platforms whilst still being supported by a single vendor.

“Symantec Endpoint Protection makes it easier for businesses to adopt a more effective multi-layered security solution and extends the power of antivirus to address today’s evolving threat landscape,” said Eric Hoh, vice president, Asia South Region, Symantec.

“It resets the bar for endpoint security, reducing overhead, time and costs so that customers can efficiently manage security and gain confidence that corporate assets and businesses are protected.”

According to Symantec, the solution has been designed to be more resource friendly by reducing the memory footprint by some 80 percent, taking up just 21MB of memory space.

The tool blends signature-based antivirus with a new proactive threat detection technology that can automatically analyze application behaviors and network communications to detect and actively block attacks.

As a complement to the enhanced endpoint device, Symantec has rolled out Symantec Network Access Control 11.0, an optional module tightly integrated into endpoint 11.0 to help customers discover and evaluate the status of endpoints, provision the appropriate network access and provide remediation capabilities to ensure security policies and standards are met.

To help customers and partners maximize the value of their investments, Symantec Global Services will be offering a range of consulting, education and support services that guide customers through the migration, deployment, operation and management of Symantec Endpoint Protection. Symantec Educations Services will provide hands-on technical training on new migration, administration and advanced features.

SDA Asia understands that Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 and Network Access Control 11.0 will be launched globally in September 2007 and can be purchased directly or through Symantec’s worldwide network of value-added authorized resellers, distributors and systems integrators.

Symantec representatives declined to disclose a ballpark figure of how much the new solutions will cost but said that the pricing is inline with the market price of other antivirus offerings.
